If you know anything about the Spider-Man comics, it's hard to imagine Venom existing without the web slinger's help. However, that's not stopping Sony from giving the classic bad guy his own movie WITHOUT Spider-Man!
While discussing this summer's release of The Amazing Spider-Man, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach dished that the slobbering symbiote will get his own franchise. Although it will share the same universe created by the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, the two characters won't share the screen...yet.
Maybe referencing an eventual Avengers-esque crossver, Tolmach explained to the press:
“I’m trying to say to you without giving anything away is hopefully all these worlds will live together in peace someday… look for the worlds to make sense with one another.”
Yes, this approach could potentially break a lot of fanboys' hearts, but at least they want to make a "huge amazing movie" about the beloved character. Arad piggybacked off of Tolmach's comments to add:
“It’s an Eddie Brock [Venom's alter ego] story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-sceince is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie.”
At this point, fans will probably take any incarnation of Venom other than the version they saw in Spider-Man 3.
However, it will be pretty cool to see Hollywood make a big budget blockbuster focusing on a character that is typically portrayed as a villain instead of a hero, don't U think?
